3D animation
and product
rendering.
Product films without a product on set, buildings before they exist, and processes no camera can reach — modelled, lit and rendered in Colombo, then cut straight into the campaign.
3D Animation
When the shot
cannot be shot.
Modelling, lighting, animation and render — finished in the same suite as the live action.
3D solves a specific class of problem. The product is still in tooling. The building is a foundation. The mechanism you need to explain is sealed inside a machine. The shot exists but a real one would cost more than the campaign. In each case a render is not a substitute for a photograph — it is the only way to get the image at all.
Raw Studio builds 3D animation in Sri Lanka as part of a working pipeline rather than as an isolated specialism, which matters more than it sounds: the same team grades the render and the live footage, so the CG element sits inside the film instead of sitting on top of it.
Scope
What we build
Product 3D and packshots
Photoreal renders and turntables of packaging, devices, vehicles and hardware — any angle, any finish, no reshoot.
Product animation
Exploded views, feature reveals, material and colourway changes, and hero films for launches.
Architectural visualisation
Exteriors, interiors, walkthroughs and fly-throughs for developers, architects and property marketing.
Explainer and process animation
Technical and industrial sequences that show what a camera cannot get inside.
Motion graphics
Titles, logo animation, infographics and data sequences built to your brand kit.
CG inserts for live action
3D elements matched, tracked and graded into footage we or you have shot.

How a 3D job runs
References and inputs
You send CAD files, drawings, dimensions, packaging artwork or physical samples — whatever exists.
Modelling
Geometry built to the real dimensions, with materials matched to the actual finish.
Lighting and look dev
Still frames approved before animation starts, so the look is agreed at the cheap stage.
Animation
Camera moves and product motion blocked, reviewed, then refined.
Render and finish
Final render, compositing, grade and delivery in every format the campaign needs.
What you need to supply
The more accurate the input, the faster and cheaper the build. CAD or STEP files are ideal. Dimensioned drawings work. Packaging artwork as vector or print-ready files is important for anything with a label. Where none of that exists, a physical sample and a set of measured photographs is enough to model from — it simply takes longer, and we will say so in the quote.
Why 3D often costs less than the shoot
A render has no set build, no travel, no product handling, no reshoot when marketing changes the colourway in month two. Once the asset exists it can be re-lit, re-angled and re-versioned for a fraction of the original build — which is why product 3D tends to pay for itself across a second and third campaign rather than the first. It also removes the awkward dependency where a launch film cannot start until manufacturing delivers a sample.
Working alongside live action
Most of our 3D lands inside a film that also has real footage — a factory sequence, a founder interview, a lifestyle scene. Because production and post are the same team, the CG is matched to the plate at the grade instead of being delivered as a separate file and hoped for.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What files do you need to model a product?
CAD or STEP files are ideal, dimensioned drawings work well, and packaging artwork should come as vector or print-ready files. If none of that exists we can model from a physical sample and measured photographs — it takes longer, and the quote will reflect that.
Is 3D cheaper than photographing the real product?
Sometimes, and more often across multiple campaigns. There is no set build, no travel and no reshoot when a colourway or a label changes — the asset is re-lit and re-rendered instead. For a single simple packshot of a product that already exists, photography is usually still faster.
Can you animate a product that has not been manufactured yet?
Yes. That is one of the most common reasons clients come to us for 3D — the launch film has to be ready before the first unit exists.
Do you do architectural walkthroughs for property developers?
Yes — exteriors, interiors, fly-throughs and still visuals for developments, from architectural drawings or models.
Can the 3D be combined with footage we already have?
Yes. We track, composite and grade CG elements into existing plates, and because the grade happens in the same suite the insert matches the footage rather than floating on top of it.
